How This Started
My fitness routine started at a small gym near Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon. It wasn't perfect, yet it was reachable, affordable, and it helped me stay consistent.
After that venue closed, I observed how fast the fitness landscape in Portugal was evolving. New clubs sprung up, new concepts emerged, and marketing often drowned out genuine member experiences.
I began trying various gyms and classes, jotting down notes after each visit. Over time, those notes grew into this site, created to help others make more informed choices.
My Approach to Reviews
Each review on this site is based on actual visits and time spent inside the facility. I concentrate on practical details that matter when selecting a membership.
When evaluating a fitness center, I usually:
- Invest ample time to grasp routines, peak times, and overall patterns
- Visit on various days and times
- Experiment with multiple training formats and coaches
- Regularly use the facilities to assess cleanliness and comfort
- Speak with other members about what remains consistent and what doesn't
- Take notes right after each visit
I refresh reviews when there are significant changes: renovations, changes in management, price adjustments, or new facilities. Each article displays its last update date so you can gauge how current the information is.
What I Look For
My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when assessing a gym:
Comfort and Privacy: Does the space feel thoughtfully designed for members, with clear boundaries and a relaxed atmosphere?
Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there sufficient variety? Are repairs prompt?
Crowd Management: Can you train during your preferred hours without constant waiting?
Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness indicates how seriously management takes the member experience.
Honest Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.
Beyond the Gym
Outside of training and writing, I live and work in Lisbon. This project aims to simplify fitness choices and make them more transparent for those seeking the right environment.
